Welcome to our monthly roundup------March edition, where I bring you this month's exclusive news as always. If you have been following our regular updates on Telegram or Twitter, you might already know that we now have a working Elemental Chat application, and we are working hard to prepare the Holochain and Holo infrastructure so that we can release it to all hosts. We're almost there! The big news this month is that Holo has obtained a patent for the Holochain distributed application framework.

If you want to know what we have been up to with Holo and Holochain over the past month------the wait is over! Let's dive right in.

As a significant step forward for the P2P network, Holo Limited has been granted a U.S. patent for the rrDHT network innovation within Holochain. rrDHT is a peer-to-peer network design implemented in Holochain that describes a node system that communicates based on a loosely coupled, agent-centric distributed hash table.

Unveiling the technology behind Holochain's secure P2P network. This week we received news that a patent we submitted to the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office has been approved. This means that Holochain's unique DHT design------rrDHT------is protected under intellectual property law.

We are primarily focused on performance, bug fixes, and features (proxy servers, storage code, sharding, and validating receipts), but we are also developing some development tools: the hc command (yes, it's back), a simulated HDK, and the hApp bundling specification is nearing finalization.

This week we rolled out updates for all HoloPorts. The most noticeable change is the user interface of our demo application, Elemental Chat. Users now have "identicons" next to their names; these automatically generated avatars are based on their actual agent ID in the Holochain network and cannot be faked. This is important because usernames are just labels; you can set your name to anything you like, even someone else's name. If you are chatting with a friend and suddenly notice their icon looks slightly different, it is likely that someone is trying to impersonate your friend.

My enthusiasm for Holochain has always stemmed from enhancing our collective intelligence, which means making collaboration easier and more enjoyable. In early December, Art and I sketched out a universal pattern for real-time collaborative applications on Holochain (like Google Docs), where you can type in the same document simultaneously with others and see their cursors moving around.

Yes, you read that right! We are actually ahead of our expectations in some areas. While completing infrastructure testing will take some time, as it is one of the most complex aspects of our work, we have been able to advance many other activities. Therefore, we decided to move the HoloFuel application up in the roadmap. Here’s what the new changes look like. Check it out on our website, where you will find more details.
