Google faces a £5 billion class action in the UK for search monopoly
ChainCatcher news, according to CNBC, the UK Competition Appeal Tribunal has received a class action lawsuit accusing Google of abusing its "near-total dominance" in the search market, restricting competitors and driving up advertising costs. The lawsuit was filed by legal scholar Or Brook on behalf of UK organizations that have used Google's search advertising services since January 1, 2011, claiming damages of over £5 billion. The complaint alleges that Google has suppressed competitors through agreements with mobile manufacturers and Apple, as well as by limiting the functionality of competing advertising tools, and is suspected of illegally manipulating the market.
