Australian police crack encrypted wallet, successfully recover 6 million dollars in criminal assets

2025-10-30 18:45:45

ChainCatcher news, the Australian Federal Police (AFP) successfully cracked a cryptocurrency wallet belonging to a suspect, recovering digital assets worth $6 million.

AFP Commissioner Krissy Barrett revealed that a data scientist successfully unlocked the wallet by identifying forged numbers added to the seed phrase. The analyst discovered that the suspect attempted to set a "crypto trap" by adding numbers at the beginning of the sequence, but the traces of manual modification were ultimately uncovered. The same analyst then used a different method to crack another wallet, recovering $1.9 million. These funds will be used for crime prevention measures after a court ruling. This case is part of "Operation Kraken," which has arrested 46 people, executed 93 search warrants, and seized a large amount of illegal weapons and drugs.
