image The largest global event of Polkadot in 2022, Polkadot Decoded, has successfully concluded. This conference, spanning Berlin, New York, Buenos Aires, and Hangzhou, attracted widespread participation from numerous Polkadot ecosystem projects, VCs, media, and Web3 enthusiasts. This event also marked the first public appearance of CESS (Cumulus Encrypted Storage System) at a large offline conference. Thanks to the strong support from the CESS community partners, CESS's presentations at the three main venues were selected through voting. We previously showcased the themes of the three presentations in “Overview of Recent CESS Activities”. Let’s take a look at the CESS team members at the event! The first CESS presentation took place on June 30 at 14:30 Beijing time. Before the presentation began, CESS welcomed Polkadot participants from all over the world at its booth and enthusiastically introduced CESS as a decentralized storage public chain developed based on Substrate, explaining how it differs from competitors in the same field, how it achieves both efficiency and security, and how it avoids some issues faced by other storage projects. Thanks to the efforts of the CESS team at the event, CESS's official social media following increased by nearly a thousand people. image image

From June 30 at 14:30 to July 1 at 4:00, CESS China Community Manager Andy Zou, CESS Global Marketing Operations Manager John Humphreys-Ramos, and Global Business Development Director Louis Albuerne shared insights at venues in Hangzhou, Buenos Aires, and New York, respectively. Their presentations mainly covered how CESS provides decentralized storage support for large-scale commercial applications and what it can bring to the Polkadot ecosystem. In the Hangzhou presentation, CESS China Community Manager Andy Zou analyzed and summarized some pain points currently existing in the decentralized storage sector and proposed a series of solutions from CESS. For example, using a multi-replica recoverable storage proof mechanism to address the design flaws of traditional point-to-point storage projects, ensuring the security and integrity of stored data, thereby enhancing the disaster recovery capabilities of the storage system. CESS provides a multi-replica storage proof mechanism based on data possession, utilizing homomorphic signature characteristics combined with time-space proof challenges to greatly improve the encoding efficiency in submitting storage proofs, eliminating the need for decoding, and enhancing the QoS (Quality of Service) of data storage by several times; for instance, users in the CESS storage network can pay by space like Baidu Cloud instead of by the number of files, thereby reducing storage costs. Additionally, Andy mentioned that during data transactions or sharing, CESS employs proxy re-encryption technology (a key conversion algorithm) in decentralized storage, allowing ciphertext encrypted with the data owner's (authorizer's) public key to be converted into another ciphertext, which can then be decrypted by the data user's (authorized person's) private key without revealing the data owner's private key and plaintext information. This enables free trading and sharing of data among users in the CESS ecosystem. image CESS Global Marketing Operations Manager John Humphreys-Ramos stated that the CESS blockchain adopts a self-created Randomly Selected Rotating Consensus Node (R²S) mechanism, randomly selecting 11 eligible consensus nodes to produce blocks within each time window. This not only improves transaction confirmation efficiency but also re-selects nodes at the end of each time window for "re-election," achieving significant decentralization. Furthermore, CESS manages data preprocessing and global space pooling through intelligent cloud space management, coordinating and scheduling the entire network's space and resources to maximize storage space utilization.

Moreover, the content delivery network's retrieval nodes can quickly locate data positions, providing high-quality retrieval services, while caching nodes further store popular data in advance, reducing on-chain interactions and offering users a faster experience in data retrieval. In summary, CESS can support applications with high data interaction demands, such as GameFi, the metaverse, and decentralized streaming. Of course, CESS's capabilities are not limited to this; whether for Web2 or Web3 applications, CESS is confident in providing the best decentralized storage services for data. image Global Business Development Director Louis Albuerne mentioned in his presentation that CESS's Multi-Type Data Rights Confirmation Mechanism (MDRC) can extract digital fingerprints, chain fingerprints, and perform fingerprint comparisons when users upload data, thereby tracking and tracing data within the CESS network. This achieves the goal of data rights confirmation. For Polkadot, with the continuous improvement of infrastructure, an explosion of applications is inevitable. The recent continuous failures in the financial sector, including DeFi, have prompted the industry to seek projects that can truly drive Web3 development, and decentralized storage of data, as the infrastructure of Web3.0, has established a deep and solid partnership with the Polkadot ecosystem from the very beginning.

Firstly, CESS is developed based on the Substrate framework and has participated in various stages of activities of Polkadot, Substrate, and the Web3 Foundation, including hackathons, SBP, and the 2022 Web3.0 Bootcamp. In the future, CESS will have closer cooperation with the Polkadot ecosystem, such as providing decentralized cloud storage services for projects within the Polkadot ecosystem, offering universal storage modules for developers, collaborating with more Polkadot ecosystem projects, and community sharing, etc. This will make both the CESS ecosystem and the Polkadot ecosystem larger and stronger. image At the beginning of this month, CESS is about to welcome a historic moment: the launch of the testnet. With the tireless efforts of the technical team, CESS has overcome numerous difficulties and completed the development of many important features. The upcoming testnet will be launched in several phases, and CESS will continue to improve and iterate the network through the testnet, during which various functional tests and network stress tests will be conducted to ensure that when the mainnet goes live, a satisfactory report is delivered to all partners supporting CESS! In the future, CESS will appear more frequently in front of everyone, so please stay tuned for the latest updates and event announcements from CESS.
