Coinbase 2022 Transparency Report: Surge in Global Law Enforcement Information Requests Over the Past Year

ChainCatcher news, Coinbase reported in its latest transparency report that information requests from law enforcement have surged over the past year. The vast majority of investigations come from the United States and are related to criminal investigations.

Coinbase's new transparency report covers the past four quarters ending September 30. During this period, the exchange received a total of 12,320 information requests from law enforcement, an increase of approximately 66% year-over-year. The United States accounted for 5,304 of these requests, or 43%. The United Kingdom, Germany, and Spain made between 1,000 and 2,000 requests each. These four countries accounted for 80% of the requests, while requests also came from 57 other countries. Requests from Spain increased by 940% to 1,304. During the reporting period, 21 countries made requests for the first time, with the Czech Republic making a total of 104 requests. (source link)
