Sources: Amazon's NFT may be issued on a private chain, linked to real assets

ChainCatcher news, according to Blockworks, three sources familiar with the matter revealed that the NFTs issued by Amazon will be linked to real-world assets, resembling a form of digital ownership. For example, users could directly purchase an NFT related to a pair of jeans using a credit card. Amazon plans to notify every Amazon Prime customer via email subscription after the launch of its digital collectibles program, and Amazon currently has about 167 million Prime members in the United States.

Two sources stated that although Amazon announced the date as April 24, the product is likely to be delayed, with the latest launch expected in May this year. Currently, the backend blockchain technology remains unclear, but since the initiation of the program, Amazon has engaged with various digital asset projects, including layer-1 blockchains and blockchain gaming companies. However, it is highly likely that Amazon will create a private blockchain, though it is still unclear if this can be achieved through a fork of existing protocols. Additionally, Amazon has hired or is seeking to hire or collaborate with dozens of Web3-focused developers.

Sources also revealed that Amazon may issue tokens as part of the transactions, but this has not yet been confirmed. (Blockworks)
