The European Central Bank will start wholesale settlement trials for CBDC in 2024

ChainCatcher news, the European Central Bank stated at the first meeting on new technology for wholesale settlement that it will begin exploring financial market settlement work based on Distributed Ledger Technology (DLT) starting in 2024. The central bank is researching how to innovate in the settlement of securities or foreign exchange transactions between financial institutions, while also developing plans for a retail central bank digital currency (CBDC) for EU citizens (i.e., the digital euro).
