Render Network Foundation selects Solana as the best choice for layer one network expansion

Today marks the day to kick off the discussion on RNP-002: Layer 1 Network Expansion.
Following the successful vote on RNP-001, the Burn-and-Mint Equilibrium (BME) model was introduced, recommending that the Render Network Foundation allocate resources to build on the Solana blockchain.
The goal of building the Render Network is to provide real-time, rendered, interactive holographic streams. This will require state to be dynamically updated on-chain in real-time. To achieve this, the network needs to be capable of writing high-performance code both on-chain and on GPUs. Rust can offer the Render Network faster speeds and greater flexibility than Solidity, ultimately allowing the same code to be used for GPU rendering tasks and smart contracts. Additionally, the Solana virtual machine can handle C++ or Rust code and convert it into smart contracts.
Anticipating future network growth, a high-throughput, low-latency blockchain is needed for network settlement and node operations. The Render Network Foundation examines the project's technical requirements through the following lenses: developer community, throughput, liquidity, transaction fees, programming languages, integration of smart contracts, implementation speed, and project maturity. After thorough review, including feedback from the community, we are pleased to propose Solana as the best choice to meet the project’s needs.
Founder Jules Urbach described the process of finding the right L1 for the Render Network:
"Solana has the right speed combination without compromising security (compared to sidechain approaches). I believe that if nothing else, we need to ensure we get faster speeds, but we must never sacrifice security in the long run. I did not make this decision lightly, nor did I consider it casually. Most of this year has been spent discussing the pros and cons."
According to RNP-000, there will be a community feedback period lasting up to 21 days starting today!
