Cryptocurrency exchange Bitfinex recovers $314,000 lost in 2016 hack
ChainCatcher news, the encrypted exchange Bitfinex has recovered over $312,000 and 6.917 Bitcoin Cash (approximately $2,000) of stolen funds related to a 2016 hack. Bitfinex obtained these assets from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, and the recovered funds will be distributed to the holders of Recovery Right Tokens (RRT). The recovered funds will be paid proportionally to the holders of Recovery Right Tokens (RRT).
It is reported that Bitfinex lost 119,756 Bitcoins in the 2016 hack, after which the U.S. government assisted in recovering the funds. In February 2022, the Department of Justice recovered 94,000 Bitcoins for Bitfinex, valued at $3.6 billion at the time. (source link)
