ChainCatcher news, Coinbase protocol head Jesse Pollak stated in an interview at EthCC that Coinbase's Layer2 network Base could potentially expand to zero-knowledge proofs (zk-proofs) in the future. Base is currently based on Optimism Rollup, but the team hopes to "ultimately have the best of both worlds." On May 30, the Optimism Foundation proposed a request for proposals for zk-proof designs for the OP Stack. Pollak mentioned that a total of three teams submitted applications, including RISC Zero and O(1) Labs (the company behind the Layer 1 network Mina). Pollak expects that by 2024, multiple implementations of zk-rollups (in the form of zk provers) will be included in the OP Stack. He anticipates that these will be adopted in Base, the OP mainnet, and other networks using its codebase.
