Bloomberg: Former HKMA Chief Executive Norman Chan may succeed as Chairman of the Hong Kong Stock Exchange, he is an opponent of cryptocurrencies
ChainCatcher news, according to Bloomberg citing informed sources, former Hong Kong Monetary Authority Chief Executive Norman Chan has become the leading candidate for the next chairman of the Hong Kong Stock Exchange. It is understood that this discussion has been held internally, and Chan will succeed Laura Cha as the chairman of the Hong Kong Stock Exchange and Clearing Limited at the shareholders' annual general meeting in April next year. However, the next chairman's candidate has not yet been finalized.
It is reported that Chan has been a critic of cryptocurrencies, publicly opposing the government's crypto-friendly policy agenda, stating that he would not buy any "even without a balance sheet" digital assets, and comparing cryptocurrency trading to gambling in a casino.
