ChainCatcher news, Bitstamp will stop offering Ethereum staking services to U.S. customers starting September 25. Bitstamp US CEO Bobby Zagotta stated in a statement that customers will continue to receive staking rewards until September 25, 2023, after which all staked assets will be unstaked. Other Bitstamp services will not be affected, and rewards along with the principal will be credited to the users' main account balance.

The company stated that the decision to stop offering staking to U.S. customers was made in light of the current regulatory dynamics in the United States. The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has targeted staking services in multiple enforcement actions. In lawsuits against Coinbase and Binance, the SEC claimed that these staking programs qualify as investment contracts under the Howey test.
