Bitcoin options worth about $3 billion are set to expire at the end of the month, which may trigger market volatility
ChainCatcher news, according to The Block, approximately $3 billion in Bitcoin options and $1.8 billion in Ethereum options will expire on September 29.
Deribit Chief Commercial Officer Luuk Strijers emphasized the similarities between the cryptocurrency market and traditional finance as the options expiration date approaches (especially quarterly expirations). Strijers noted, "This can lead to increased trading volume and volatility. The actions of market makers may exacerbate market fluctuations, especially before the options expire. Market makers will adjust their hedges to accommodate changes in the underlying asset prices."
