Brazil launches blockchain-based digital ID
ChainCatcher news, according to Cointelegraph, Brazil is launching a new national identity program driven by blockchain technology. Rio de Janeiro, Goiás, and Paraná will be the first states to issue identity documents on-chain through a private blockchain developed by Brazil's national data processing service company Serpro. According to a newly enacted decree, by November 6, the entire country will be able to issue identity documents using blockchain technology.
According to local government officials, the national identity project is crucial for combating organized crime, enabling cooperation among government departments, providing a simpler way to access services, and streamlining administrative records.
