ChainCatcher news, according to CoinDesk, the governor of the French central bank stated on Tuesday that central banks in the eurozone will develop wholesale central bank digital currency (CBDC) plans in the coming weeks to innovate the way financial institutions settle securities and foreign exchange transactions.

François Villeroy de Galhau stated at a conference, "The euro system has begun to explore new technologies for central bank currency settlement, including the issuance of the first tokenized CBDC." Qualification criteria and a request for proposals will be announced in the coming weeks, with experiments set to launch next year, including real transaction trials. He added that central banks will explore "alternative protocols and blockchain" as well as their own proprietary distributed ledger securities settlement system (DL3S).
