ChainCatcher news, AltIndex data shows that the number of Bitcoin ATMs installed globally has fallen to its lowest point in two years this month. AltIndex stated on Wednesday that the number of installations has decreased by 7,000 since the end of last year, down to 32,500. The United States, which has the most machines, saw the largest decline. Currently, there are about 26,700 machines nationwide. Nevertheless, the number of installations in this largest economy in the world is still nearly 18 times that of the entire Europe (which has about 1,500 installations).

AltIndex attributes the decline to controversies over its potential criminal uses. For example, scammers may advertise items for sale on websites like eBay, asking buyers to deposit funds into a specific Bitcoin wallet via an ATM, and then disappear.
