Vitalik: Plasma is an underestimated design space, and validity proofs can address the challenges it faces

Vitalik Buterin's article summarizes that in 2023, Plasma is an underestimated design space. Although Rollups remain the gold standard with unmatched security properties, the advantages of Plasma from a developer experience perspective cannot be overlooked. Its simplicity allows application developers to avoid considering ownership graphs and incentive flows within the application, greatly simplifying the development process. Meanwhile, Plasma helps to completely avoid data availability issues, effectively reducing transaction costs. For chains originally serving as validators, Plasma provides an important security upgrade solution. With the achievements of ZK-EVM this year, we have the opportunity to re-explore this design space and propose more effective structures to simplify the developer experience and protect user funds.
