A financial manager in Hong Kong lost over 2 million dollars by investing in gold and cryptocurrency on a fraudulent platform
ChainCatcher news, according to the South China Morning Post, a financial manager in Hong Kong was deceived out of over HK$17 million (approximately US$2.1735 million) after being lured by a "profit" of HK$2.6 million into investing in gold and cryptocurrency through a fake trading platform.
The 57-year-old woman was tricked by the "profit" of HK$2.6 million after her initial three months of investment, with these "profits" transferred to her bank account through more than 10 transactions. These payments were designed to deceive the victim into believing that the trading platform was legitimate and served as bait to entice her to make more trades and invest more funds.
