EigenLayer and EigenDA launch on Ethereum mainnet

ChainCatcher news, according to CoinDesk, the Ethereum restaking protocol EigenLayer officially announced the launch of its blockchain mainnet today, accompanied by the release of EigenDA, a data availability (DA) service developed by the EigenLayer team. EigenDA, as an Active Verification Service (AVS), is designed to help other blockchain protocols store transaction data and other information.

It is reported that the initial release of EigenLayer will limit some functionalities, with Eigen Labs CEO Sreeram Kannan referring to the protocol's first release as a "beta version" in an interview last week. Notably, AVSs outside of Eigen Labs' EigenDA will be able to "register" with the protocol, but they currently cannot be fully deployed.

Additionally, EigenLayer mentioned in its X account: "This mainnet release does not include: AVSs making protocol payments to operators; slashing." "Slashing" refers to the method EigenLayer will use to ensure AVS operators act honestly: the protocol will rely on a proof-of-stake system similar to Ethereum, where validators face the risk of having their stakes revoked if they act maliciously.

EigenLayer stated in the post: "We allow the EigenLayer market to develop and stabilize before introducing protocol payments and slashing features, which will be launched on the mainnet later this year."
