ChainCatcher news, according to CoinDesk, former U.S. President Donald Trump promised at the Libertarian National Convention in Washington, D.C. that if he is re-elected president, he will commute the sentence of "Silk Road" founder Ross Ulbricht on his first day in office. Ulbricht was sentenced in 2015 to two life sentences plus 40 years for creating and operating the "Silk Road" darknet marketplace, effectively a life sentence without the possibility of parole. The "Silk Road" operated from 2011 to 2013 and was primarily used for the anonymous sale of drugs, widely regarded as the first real use case for Bitcoin. Trump stated that Ulbricht has been incarcerated for 11 years, "We want to bring him home." Many in the audience held up "Free Ross" signs, cheering enthusiastically at Trump's promise.
