ChainCatcher news, Matter Labs founder and CEO Alex responded on social media to the controversy surrounding the registration of the "ZK" trademark.

Alex stated that Matter Labs rejects the concept of "intellectual property." However, the existence of trademarks is to protect users, not to protect companies. All trademarks previously registered by Matter Labs, including those related to ZK, are defensive to prevent dishonest actors from misleading customers and confusing their products and services with those offered by Matter Labs (unfortunately, this has indeed been the case in the past).

Matter Labs had previously reached out to the legal team of the Ethereum Foundation and proposed collaborating to create a legal framework to ensure that important technical terms like "ZK" and similar ones are used in the public domain.
