Report: Nearly $19 billion worth of cryptocurrency has been stolen since 2011

ChainCatcher news, according to a report by Crystal Intelligence, nearly $19 billion worth of cryptocurrency has been stolen since 2011. The report identified 785 incidents of cryptocurrency theft, including 220 security breaches, 345 DeFi hacking attacks, and 220 fraud schemes.

The largest theft occurred in 2019, when $2.9 billion related to the PlusToken Ponzi scheme was stolen. Since then, cryptocurrency crime has continued to surge, with a record number of cryptocurrency thefts in 2023, totaling 286 incidents with a total value exceeding $2.3 billion.
