This total includes $2.15 billion stolen by hackers and $834.5 million stolen through scams. Approximately $488.5 million worth of cryptocurrency has been recovered.

May was the peak month of the year, with 28 attacks resulting in a loss of $574.6 million. Hackers continue to primarily target DeFi protocols, but the proportion of attacks against individuals and organizations has risen to 46% (up from 33% in 2023), mainly exploiting weak private key management and insufficient security practices.
