Vitalik warns of AI risks while being optimistic about the development potential of AI Agents as a new interface for things
ChainCatcher news, Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin stated on the X platform that the incorrect use of AI could create a new type of independent self-replicating intelligent life. The correct use of AI, however, is like a mechanical exoskeleton designed for human thought. If we only achieve the former without the latter, humanity will face the risk of permanently losing power. On the other hand, if we achieve the latter, we will usher in a prosperous super-intelligent human civilization.
In addition, regarding the question of "as a design choice, should we create AI agents or enhance human agency," Vitalik expressed: "'Agents' is an interesting term. Sometimes it refers to 'AI that can operate autonomously and formulate complex plans lasting several days without human intervention,' but more often it simply means 'chatbots replacing graphical user interfaces (GUIs) as the interface for everything.' The latter is great!"
