The concept of AI is already familiar to everyone. From Turing machines to deep learning, from chess-playing Deep Blue to Go-playing AlphaGo, from Agent Smith in The Matrix to Nvidia's Eureka, AI Agents are quietly changing our world. And now, with the support of blockchain, AI Agents are transitioning from theory to practice, gradually moving out of laboratories and into our daily lives.

You read that right! These agents are not just "humanoid robots" from science fiction; they are more likely to become "virtual residents" in the blockchain ecosystem, managing assets, executing contracts, and even making autonomous decisions, possessing "independent" economic behaviors just like you and me. Today, let's talk about this emerging wave in Crypto—the AI Agent track.

According to CoinGecko data, the total market capitalization of the current AI Agent track has reached $13.3 billion, approaching 100 billion RMB, with numerous AI Agent projects emerging in the market, some of which are of questionable quality. After researching over 150 AI Agent projects, I have carefully selected 70 representative projects, whose total market capitalization has surpassed $11 billion, covering six major tracks. This article will provide a detailed analysis of the AI Agent track through these 70 projects, revealing the opportunities and challenges within.

Track Overview: What is an AI Agent?

First, we need to clarify what an AI Agent actually is. You can think of an AI Agent as a "virtual intelligent entity" that possesses self-learning capabilities and can autonomously execute tasks. It is not merely an assistant or a tool; it resembles an independent individual that can operate freely within a decentralized blockchain network. It does not require constant human instructions but instead makes decisions and completes predefined tasks through continuous learning and optimization.

This type of AI Agent is different from the voice assistants we commonly see today (like Siri or Xiao Ai). Those assistants merely provide services by recognizing your commands, while an AI Agent exists independently, capable of self-learning, adapting to environments, making decisions, and even managing and trading assets on the blockchain. Imagine your digital wallet no longer being a rigid digital ledger; it would automatically make buying and selling decisions based on market changes and even optimize your investment portfolio for you.

Why is everyone so eager to grab this field now? The reason is simple—AI Agents not only have tremendous technological potential but also a vast market demand. The decentralized nature of blockchain allows AI Agents to interact and trade directly with other agents or systems without intermediaries. This de-intermediation approach is particularly suitable for applications that require autonomous decision-making, such as investment management, automated trading, and smart contract execution.

In short, AI Agents are "smart programs" that can think independently like humans and even complete complex tasks without any human intervention. They can autonomously operate on the blockchain, execute smart contracts, and even participate in governance and economic decision-making. This is not ordinary artificial intelligence; it has the potential to lead a revolution in the integration of blockchain and artificial intelligence.

AI Agent Track: The Future Has Arrived

According to Messari's predictions, by the end of 2025, 90% of on-chain transactions will no longer be initiated by real humans clicking "send," but will be executed by a group of AI agents. These agents can execute small payments based on real-time data feedback, continuously optimize liquidity pools, and allocate rewards efficiently, achieving smarter operations.

It may not be hard to imagine, but in fact, the various technological accumulations in the blockchain field over the past seven years (L1, rollup, DeFi, NFT) have quietly paved the way for the world where AI Agents operate on-chain. Ironically, many builders are not even aware that they are constructing infrastructure for a machine-dominated future.

Why is this shift happening?

  • Eliminating human error: The core feature of smart contracts is to execute exactly as coded, without interference. Conversely, AI agents can process large amounts of complex data faster and more accurately than real humans, reducing human errors and operational mistakes.
  • Micro-payments and high-frequency trading: The operation of AI agents will make on-chain transactions smaller, more frequent, and more efficient. Especially on L1/L2 platforms like Solana and Base, transaction costs are showing a downward trend, further promoting the expansion of AI-driven trading ecosystems.
  • Invisible infrastructure: As decentralization and automation gradually develop, more and more users are willing to give up direct control and let AI agents handle tedious management tasks.

These factors combine to drive the widespread application of AI Agents and make them a core component of L1/L2 platforms, further promoting innovation in the blockchain ecosystem.

The vastness and diversity of the AI Agent track are reflected not only in its ability to cross the boundaries of various industries but also in the richness of its subfields.
