U.S. media: Biden will leave the task of enforcing the TikTok ban to Trump
ChainCatcher news, according to ABC News, a Biden administration official stated that the Biden administration does not intend to take action to force TikTok to shut down its U.S. operations immediately on Sunday. TikTok can still choose to shut down its operations that day. However, the Biden administration now indicates that it will not enforce the law that takes effect the day before it leaves office.
A White House official stated, "Our position on this issue is clear—TikTok should continue to operate under U.S. ownership. Given that the law will take effect on the weekend before Trump's inauguration, how it will be implemented will depend on the next administration."
The law does not require TikTok to shut down on January 19, but if app stores continue to provide services for TikTok, it could run into trouble, as the law grants the Justice Department the authority to impose fines of up to $5,000 per user.
