Barstool Sports founder mistakenly buys $170,000 LIBRA meme coin, causing it to surge 3000%

ChainCatcher news, Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy allegedly mistakenly invested nearly $170,000 to purchase a meme coin named LIBRA, which is associated with a different contract address than the controversial token LIBRA linked to Argentine President Milei. Portnoy's purchase caused the illiquid LIBRA token's price to surge over 3000% at one point, and it has now fallen back to 0.0029 USDT, with a market cap of $3.2 million.

Shortly after purchasing the token, Portnoy posted on X: "Does anyone want to buy some fake Libra? Warning. This is a meme coin. I accidentally bought it."
