The Kingdom of Bhutan's Bitcoin reserves reach 1.3 billion dollars, accounting for nearly 40% of GDP
ChainCatcher news, according to Coinfomania, Bhutan's Bitcoin reserves are valued at $1.3 billion, accounting for about 40% of the country's GDP. SatoshiActFund CEO Dennis Porter referred to this as a "crypto milestone."
Bhutan began mining in 2020 at the initiative of King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck, utilizing its abundant hydropower resources. Five years later, Bhutan has become the third-largest government holder of Bitcoin in the world.
Ujjwal Deep Dahal, head of Druk Holding and Investments, stated that Bitcoin mining is a "fairly obvious choice" for Bhutan. The country currently operates at least six mining sites, some in collaboration with Singaporean mining company Bitdeer Technologies.
Bhutan plans to hold its Bitcoin reserves long-term and has begun exploring the application of cryptocurrencies in daily life. In May of this year, Bhutan launched a travel payment system that supports over 100 cryptocurrencies, allowing tourists to pay for flights, hotels, and visa fees using cryptocurrency.
