The seventh round of ministerial-level tariff negotiations between Japan and the United States begins, with Akizawa meeting with Lutnik
ChainCatcher news, according to a report by Jinshi citing Kyodo News, Japan's Minister for Economic Revitalization, Ryōsuke Akizawa, held talks with U.S. Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo in Washington, D.C. on the 27th local time. The two countries are engaged in the seventh round of ministerial negotiations regarding the Trump administration's high tariff policies.
The Japanese government stated: "We had productive discussions. We will continue to coordinate fully between Japan and the U.S. to reach an agreement that is beneficial for both sides." Ryōsuke Akizawa did not immediately accept media interviews after the negotiations. The meeting lasted about 1 hour. Considering that the suspension period for the reciprocal tariff increase ends on July 9, and Japan will hold voting for the House of Councillors election on the 20th, Akizawa requested a significant reduction in the tariff rate on automobiles, which the Japanese government considers to be in the "national interest."
