Vitalik: "I only support open source" should be a universal perspective

2025-08-12 19:45:15

ChainCatcher message, Ethereum founder Vitalik Buterin published a long article titled "On Idea-Driven Thinking" stating that "I only support open source things" should be a universal viewpoint, and "I only support if it's open source" should become a more widespread perspective.

There is a conflict between idea-driven thinking (rooted in philosophical frameworks) and data-driven thinking (derived from empirical analysis). Idea-driven approaches, also known as ideology, can simplify complex decisions, promote social coordination, and achieve specialization, but they can also become rigid or disconnected from real goals.
