Interpol dismantles large encrypted crime network, arresting 1,209 people

ChainCatcher news, according to The Block, Interpol announced on Friday that its coordinated "Operation Serengeti 2" has successfully arrested 1,209 individuals suspected of cybercrime, who collectively attacked nearly 88,000 victims. It is reported that this operation involved investigators from 18 African countries and the UK.

The operation began in June of this year and has so far recovered $97.4 million in funds and dismantled 11,432 malicious infrastructures. During the operation, Zambian authorities dismantled a large-scale online investment scam that promised high returns through advertising campaigns, luring approximately 65,000 victims to invest in cryptocurrency, with estimated fraud amounts reaching up to $300 million.

In Angola, investigators dismantled 25 cryptocurrency mining centers, arrested 60 Chinese nationals illegally validating blockchain transactions, and seized mining and IT equipment worth over $37 million.
