New York crypto venture capital firm Archetype has completed a $100 million fundraising, with a strategic focus on expanding into the Asia-Europe market
New York-based early-stage crypto venture capital firm Archetype announced today that its third fund, "Archetype III," has completed fundraising, totaling over $100 million. This round of investors includes well-known institutions from the United States, Asia, and Europe, including sovereign wealth funds, top university endowments, pension funds, large family offices, global institutions, and founders of several unicorn companies.
Archetype was founded by Ash Egan, who previously established the venture capital arm of ConsenSys (now independent as ConsenSys Mesh, with assets under management exceeding $1 billion) and was responsible for cryptocurrency investments at the established Boston fund Accomplice (managing $2.5 billion). Its early investment portfolio includes several star projects, such as Bison Trails (renamed Coinbase Cloud after being acquired by Coinbase), Chainalysis, Balancer, Near, Dapper Labs, and Coinlist.
Currently, Archetype has a total assets under management of $350 million. While continuing to deepen its engagement in the New York ecosystem (the firm was one of the first crypto teams to settle in New York in 2021), it is accelerating its global expansion, actively investing in and empowering top crypto entrepreneurs and institutions worldwide.
Asia has become a core focus of its globalization strategy. Archetype will leverage its deep roots in Asia to accelerate the adoption and application of crypto technology in the region. Its long-term supporters include leading sovereign wealth funds in Asia, one of China's largest family offices, and a co-founder of a top Chinese venture capital firm managing over $8 billion.
Archetype partner Danny Sursock has deep ties to China, and both he and partner Katherine Wu grew up there. Danny, as the first member during the company's startup phase, currently leads investments in the AI sector; Katherine previously served as head of Coinbase Ventures and is now the Chief Operating Officer of Ethereum Name Service (ENS). Based on the core team's strong family connections in Hong Kong (Danny, Ash, and Katherine all have family there), the core team plans to further increase its on-the-ground investment in Asia.
In addition to its core team of 10, Archetype has also assembled a research team with extensive industry experience, including: Nick Pai, CTO of Across and senior engineer at UMA Protocol; David Wong, co-founder of zkSecurity and former security lead at Meta's Diem (formerly Libra); Andrew Hong, founder of Herd and former chief engineer at Dune Analytics; and Will Kantaros, CTO of Decent (recently acquired by MoonPay).
Archetype's third fund has invested in several key projects that have not yet been publicly disclosed and continues to expand its leading investment portfolio, which includes:

US Bitcoin Corp (now Hut8): A Bitcoin mining and AI computing company with a market cap of $4 billion, listed on NASDAQ (A/B round investor)
