The Global Crypto Alliance strongly calls for opposition to the Irish Crypto Messaging Surveillance Bill

ChainCatcher news, the Global Encryption Coalition (GEC) recently sent a letter to the Irish government, strongly urging the abandonment of the proposed "Communications Interception and Lawful Access Bill." This bill would allow law enforcement to access encrypted messages, and GEC warns that it would severely threaten cybersecurity, increase the risk of cybercrime, and potentially lead to tech companies withdrawing from Ireland.

As the European headquarters for many tech giants, Ireland's legislative decisions have far-reaching implications. GEC also urged Ireland to withdraw its support for the EU's "Chat Control" bill, which requires scanning before message encryption and has recently faced opposition from Germany. Experts emphasize that weakening encryption not only jeopardizes personal privacy but also poses a national security risk.
