The U.S. government released some initial claims data: most of them were revised upward
The official website of the U.S. government shows that as of the week ending October 18, the number of initial unemployment claims was 232,000; the number of continuing unemployment claims was 1.957 million, an increase from the previous week's continuing claims of 1.947 million. At the same time, as of the week ending September 20, the number of initial unemployment claims was revised up from 218,000 to 219,000, and the four-week average was revised up from 237,500 to 237,750. For the week ending September 13, the number of continuing unemployment claims was revised down from 1.926 million to 1.916 million. The U.S. government website has not yet released the initial unemployment claims data for the weeks ending September 27, October 4, October 11, October 25, November 1, and November 8. If the government had not shut down, these six sets of data should have been released. (Jin Shi)
