British sprinting star CJ Ujah has been charged in connection with a cryptocurrency fraud case
According to a report from the British police, former world athletics championships 4×100 meter relay gold medalist, British sprinter CJ Ujah, along with nine others, has been charged with "conspiracy to defraud" in connection with a cryptocurrency scam.
The police stated that the criminal gang impersonated police and cryptocurrency company personnel to carry out phone scams against multiple victims, inducing them to disclose key wallet security information, including seed phrases. They then transferred the victims' cryptocurrency assets, with one victim losing over £300,000. This case was cracked by the Eastern Region Special Operations Unit (ERSOU) after a joint investigation across Kent, Essex, and London. Ten suspects have appeared in court, with Ujah granted bail until a further hearing on May 28.
The 32-year-old Ujah won the world championship 4×100 meter relay gold medal representing the British team in 2017 and also claimed the Diamond League title that same year. He was banned for 22 months in 2022 due to a doping issue, later determined to be a result of supplement contamination leading to a false positive. In addition to Ujah, another British sprinter, Brandon Mingeli, is also on the arrest list and is currently in custody awaiting trial.
