Former NBA player Thompson sues World Mobile over a token endorsement agreement worth up to $2 million
According to Front Office Sports, former NBA player Tristan Thompson is suing the UK-based cryptocurrency company World Mobile Group, accusing it of fabricating excuses to terminate a $2 million endorsement deal and continuing to use his name, image, and likeness without authorization.
Thompson claims that under an agreement signed in May 2025, he was promised cryptocurrency tokens worth up to $2 million from the company, WMTX. He stated that he had been fulfilling his obligations under the agreement, including promoting the company on social media and participating in public events, but the company terminated their collaboration in March of this year. According to the agreement, World Mobile Group was to make quarterly installment payments of the token amounts. In December 2025, the company informed Thompson that they had unexpectedly issued him more WMTX tokens than anticipated. Thompson stated that he proposed a "reasonable solution: to offset the excess tokens against the upcoming quarterly dividends due in about 60 days." Three months later, the company issued him a "notice of material breach and termination of contract." The case is still pending in court.
