Galaxy Digital acquires 500 acres of land in Texas to build a second AI data center park

According to The Block, cryptocurrency financial company Galaxy Digital announced that it has acquired approximately 500 acres of land in McGregor, Texas, for the construction of its second large AI and high-performance computing (HPC) data center campus in the state. The project will be advanced in collaboration with the city of McGregor and local partners, with an initial planned capacity of 74 MW, expected to receive power supply by 2028, and plans to expand to hundreds of megawatts by 2030.

Galaxy expects that the project will increase the local tax base in McGregor by at least $130 million. Galaxy CEO Mike Novogratz stated that the company has validated the model of long-term cooperation between private data centers and rural communities at the Helios data center in Dickens County, Texas over the past few years, and the new campus will be the next step in Galaxy's strategy to build a multi-campus data center business. Previously, Galaxy acquired the Helios Bitcoin mining campus in West Texas in 2022 and gradually shifted towards AI and high-performance computing business. Currently, the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) has approved Galaxy to expand Helios to a capacity of 1.63 GW, which has been leased by AI cloud computing company CoreWeave for 15 years.
