A UK court has ruled in a kidnapping and extortion case against cryptocurrency holders, with multiple defendants found guilty

According to the Daily Mail, the Inner London Crown Court recently ruled on a kidnapping and extortion case involving cryptocurrency tycoons. Two wealthy cryptocurrency tycoons from France (both in their 20s) were ambushed by a gang during their visit to London, held for over 52 hours, and subjected to torture including scalding water, cigarette burns, and being bound and beaten, while being forced to transfer $30,000 in cryptocurrency.

The prosecution pointed out that the victims flaunted their wealth on social media, which may have attracted the attention of criminals. Ultimately, Gerson Borges and Mohamed Osman were found guilty of conspiracy to commit extortion and unlawful imprisonment, while Julius George, Isaac Bakoya, and William Adebisi were found guilty of unlawful imprisonment. The Flying Squad of the Metropolitan Police successfully rescued the hostages through mobile phone tracking and CCTV, and arrested some of the suspects after a high-speed chase. The mastermind "Nino" (Ibrahim Mohamed) is still at large.
