The Russian FSB plans to force cryptocurrency exchanges and gaming platforms to install the SORM monitoring system

According to The Bell, Alexander Samoilov, an official from the 12th Center of the Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation (FSB), revealed at the KROS Network Technology Annual Conference held in Sochi in May 2026 that the FSB plans to extend the installation requirements of SORM (System for Operative Investigative Activities) to cryptocurrency exchanges and gaming platforms, mandating them to share user data with security agencies in real-time.

It is noteworthy that Samoilov also acknowledged that the "Yarovaya Law" has been in effect for 10 years since its passage in 2016, but the implementation rate of the relevant provisions is only about 80%. Market participants believe this estimate is still on the high side. According to The Bell's investigation, following the terrorist attack at the "Krokus City Hall," the FSB's Second Directorate took the opportunity of a large-scale inspection of the SORM system to further strengthen its control over the Russian internet.
