According to Reuters, citing two informed sources, the Trump administration informed leading AI companies on Tuesday that it will not conduct security testing on open-weight AI models. This decision marks a new direction for the U.S. government in its approach to AI regulation. Open-weight models allow developers and users to freely download, modify, and deploy model parameters without relying on closed API access. Previously, organizations such as the American Institute for AI Safety (AISI) had conducted security assessments on cutting-edge models.
