Why is entertainment RWA starting to rise?

Author: momo, ChainCatcher

RWA is currently one of the most dominant sectors in the entire Web3 space, but most people's attention is primarily focused on financial assets like government bonds and stocks. In fact, another area with a larger consumer volume and stronger user stickiness, the entertainment industry, is also being transformed by RWA systems.

We recently noticed a very interesting project called NEXST, which is a Web3 entertainment infrastructure based on AI, VR, and RWA.

In the past few months, NEXST has collaborated with several well-known K-Pop artists such as UNIS and KISS OF LIFE to launch Xmersive VR concerts, which have been well received among global entertainment fan communities. Additionally, they have created an AI-driven social creation platform, an RWA ticketing system, and entertainment IP games, allowing fans from around the world to interact closely with their idols and form cultural connections.

NEXST has grand ambitions; its goal is not just to be a provider of a few VR concerts or a simple artist IP tokenization project, but to become a leading label on par with JYP, SM, and YG in the AI idol era, redefining the key processes of entertainment production and consumption with AI + digital infrastructure. Earlier this year, they secured a $3 million strategic financing round from institutions including Castrum Capital and TBV.

Why is entertainment RWA starting to rise? What is NEXST's positioning? How will it transform the massive entertainment consumption market?

Aiming at the trillion-dollar entertainment consumption market, NEXST uses

1. Why will the entertainment industry become the next key piece of RWA?

The global entertainment market has reached $2.8 trillion, with the fan economy being the most active engine within it. In past cycles of Web3, there have been attempts around this massive consumer market. NFT digital collectibles, Fan Tokens, on-chain tickets, and star IP tokenization have all emerged, attracting widespread participation from global stars and artists. However, looking back, these projects ultimately struggled to escape the "hot concepts, cold implementations" scenario.

Where is the problem? Insights can be gleaned from NEXST's white paper. Their proposed concept of "Fan Continuity" highlights a structural issue within the entertainment industry.

What does Fan Continuity mean? It targets a key pain point in the entertainment industry: the highly fragmented consumption behavior of fans. Buying a concert ticket ends when the show is over; purchasing merchandise concludes once it arrives; voting once leads to no further connection after the results are announced. Fans create immense value but cannot form continuous accumulation, nor can they participate in value distribution. Platforms and agencies take most of the profits, leaving fans as "payers" rather than "participants."

Most past attempts in Web3 entertainment only addressed the step of "moving assets on-chain" without solving a more fundamental question: why should fans continue to participate? After tokenizing a ticket, what can fans do after the show? After issuing a Fan Token, besides speculation, what relevance does it have to daily interactions with fans? These projects failed to create a cycle of rights and value accumulation, naturally leading to user retention issues.

NEXST's strategy is based on the "Fan Continuity" framework, transforming every interaction between artists, content, and fans into accumulable, unlockable, and transferable long-term digital rights. It's not just about finishing a song; it's about "owning that moment"; it's not just about buying merchandise and leaving; it's about continuously generating value on-chain through consumption behavior.

Furthermore, NEXST positions AI idols as a long-term strategy. While traditional agencies like JYP, SM, and YG still rely on human labor and capital to build star systems, NEXST aims to redefine this process using AI + digital infrastructure. This does not mean the traditional model will be immediately replaced, but it is an evolution worth observing; the future star-making system in the AI idol era may depend on the shaping of AI and digital technologies.

However, timing is also crucial. Past explorations failed not only due to incorrect direction but also due to immature technology and inadequate market education. The rise of RWA in the financial sector has gone through multiple cycles to grow, educating the market and establishing a basic acceptance of on-chain assets among consumers.

Now, the tokenization framework of RWA has provided on-chain rights and circulation paths for physical assets like tickets, merchandise, and experiences, while AI has lowered the barriers for content generation and interaction. These conditions combined mean that entertainment RWA is no longer a "future possibility," but rather "happening now."

2. How does NEXST utilize "AI + VR + RWA" to reshape the entertainment industry?

Specifically, how does NEXST build the next generation of entertainment infrastructure based on the "Fan Continuity" framework?

From a product perspective, NEXST has four key pillars: a VR content platform, an AI-driven marketing and social creation platform, an RWA ticketing platform, and entertainment IP games.

Why cover so many aspects? Compared to many past Web3 entertainment products that focused on single points of breakthrough, NEXST's solution is to construct a complete ecosystem using AI, VR, RWA, and Web3 gaming, connecting the entire chain of "content production, fan interaction, rights accumulation, and asset circulation," while addressing the respective issues of content producers like artists and the consumption side of fans.

Looking first at the content aspect, NEXST has co-developed the Xmersive VR platform with Japan's publicly listed XR/metaverse company monoAI. This product primarily collaborates with top global artists to transform concerts into 180-degree immersive VR content, allowing fans to watch using their smartphones without needing to purchase expensive VR headsets. Its purpose is to solve the problem of limited live entertainment resources, where geography and ticket prices keep most fans out.

For artists, an offline concert can only accommodate a few thousand people, but VR content can reach millions of fans worldwide; for fans, spending less money allows them to get a closer view of the stage. Currently, Xmersive has completed actual collaborations with UNIS and KISS OF LIFE, with VR stages for four songs by UNIS already globally released.

However, content is just the entry point; how to retain fans remains a challenge. Therefore, NEXST has also built an interactive layer, using the social interaction platform SAI and AI Agent to ensure ongoing relationships.

SAI, based on ByteDance's generative model, allows fans to create and share AI-generated visual content, transforming them from "viewers" into "creators." The AI Agent acts more like a 24/7 online manager, helping artists manage social media, respond to fan messages, and assist fans in obtaining personalized recommendations, purchasing tickets, and participating in community activities.

According to NEXST, through collaboration with decentralized AI Neura, their AI Agent can remember fans' preferences and historical interactions, creating a sense of companionship that grows with use. This means it is not a one-time chatbot, but rather extends the relationship between fans and artists from "the day of the performance" to "everyday life."

At the same time, NEXST has also created a rights accumulation layer, allowing fragmented consumption behaviors to circulate on-chain, enabling fans to be not just consumers but also to gain more benefits from their investments.

Specifically, NEXST's RWA platform tokenizes concert tickets, merchandise, and VIP experiences, addressing three persistent industry issues: ticket fraud and scalping, difficulty in verifying product authenticity, and lack of retention after fan consumption; more importantly, these consumption records are stored on-chain, becoming fans' identity credentials and rights accumulation, which can unlock exclusive content or priority ticket purchasing rights in the future.

Additionally, the accumulated rights need circulation scenarios, so NEXST has launched an entertainment IP gaming layer, with its first game "DearSt! RHYTHM STAGE" already launched on the Dapp Portal co-developed with LINE and Kaia, in collaboration with the Japanese idol group Nijino Conquistador. Fans earn $NXT through gameplay, unlocking NFT items, and transforming the rights accumulated in the content and interaction layers into playable, earnable, and tradable assets within the game. The game serves as both an "outlet" and a "revenue stream" for the entire ecosystem, where rights are consumed and regenerated.

It can be seen that these four layers are not parallel but interlocking, ultimately allowing for the complete realization of "Fan Continuity," where fans do not jump between four independent products but continuously accumulate value within an evolving ecosystem. Currently, these four products have moved from concept to practical implementation, gaining collaboration with well-known listed company monoAI and popular K-pop idol groups UNIS and KISS OF LIFE.

The team's background also supports NEXST's grand ambitions. Core members and team advisors come from global brands such as Coca-Cola, Disney, FOX, MTV, Mitsubishi, SoftBank, Shiseido, SNK, Rakuten, YouTube, Under Armour, and Tastemade, covering deep resources in entertainment, gaming, consumer brands, and the Asian market.

This background means that NEXST is not a group of crypto-native teams creating entertainment from scratch, but rather possesses the bridging capability to connect the traditional entertainment industry with new technology ecosystems, understanding what artists need, what fans want, and how to connect the two using Web3 tools.

3. What is the growth driver of the NEXST ecosystem?

NEXST has currently built an ecological closed loop around the production and consumption ends; how will it ensure sustainable growth moving forward?

Looking back at past cycles of Web3 entertainment projects, most failed to achieve sustained growth, a significant reason being that asset tokens and rights were not truly embedded in the closed loop of entertainment consumption, leaving fans without reasons for continued participation.

NEXST aims to address this issue. Its ecosystem token NXT is not an independent speculative target but a universal tool that runs through all core aspects of content, interaction, rights, and asset circulation, transforming fans' consumption and interaction behaviors into accumulable, unlockable digital rights.

In the content layer, NXT is used to unlock Xmersive VR concerts, discount live tickets, VIP events, and early access content; in the interaction layer, it unlocks advanced features of the AI agent in SAI, allowing fans to vote and participate in artists' growth; in the asset layer, it drives GameFi rewards in NEXST GAME, unlocks NFT items, and supports the tokenization and circulation of RWA tickets and trading cards. Ultimately, fans are not jumping between four independent products but continuously accumulating value within an evolving ecosystem.

Furthermore, the staking mechanism of NXT makes "holding" itself a form of participation. Fans can earn points by staking NXT, which can be exchanged for advanced features of the AI agent, crowdfunding participation qualifications, discounted tickets, early access content, and merchandise discounts. This design transforms the token from a "trading tool" into an "identity credential," where the more one stakes and holds, the higher the level of unlocked rights, naturally forming a retention and reinvestment flywheel.

In May of this year, NXT was launched on platforms such as OKX Boost, KuCoin, MEXC, and LBank, with an issuance price of $0.1, reaching a peak of $0.5098. This performance occurred against a backdrop of only 1.34% circulation at TGE and a 12-month team lock-up, indicating manageable early selling pressure and a certain level of market recognition for its infrastructure narrative.

According to NEXST, it is laying out the world's first brokerage business segment focused on AI idols, launching a special treasury of 10 million NXT to support AI idol content production and ecosystem development. This is not only a financial investment but also an exploration of a new star-making model distinct from traditional agencies, constructing new pathways for fan consumption. If this pathway proves successful, NEXST will not only serve existing artists but become a provider of next-generation entertainment infrastructure.

Moreover, its subsequent rhythm is worth paying attention to. NEXST is actively advancing more CEX listing plans while accelerating expansion into Southeast Asia and the European and American markets. Combined with its collaborations with UNIS and KISS OF LIFE, as well as the launch of "DearSt! RHYTHM STAGE" in the LINE ecosystem, NEXST is moving from "product validation" to a critical phase of "scale replication."

If AI idol content and new exchange layouts are gradually realized in the second half of the year, its ecosystem will transition from "having a closed loop" to "having incremental growth," at which point the utility of NXT will expand from "unlocking existing content" to "participating in new content creation," which will be the true test of "Fan Continuity" transitioning from narrative to norm.
