Besant: The U.S. Treasury bond repurchase aims to calm market frenzy
U.S. Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen stated that last month's expansion of the U.S. Treasury bond buyback program was aimed at calming the frenzied sentiment in the bond market and pushing market prices back to equilibrium. She denied that the Treasury's buyback of government bonds was equivalent to the Federal Reserve's quantitative easing, stating that the measure was similar to the Federal Reserve's past distortion operations.
