After a long wait, the highly anticipated Perp DEX protocol Variational has finally unveiled the veil on its tokenomics and airdrop plan. For long-term participants in the protocol interactions and those continuously accumulating points, the biggest question on their minds is no longer just "When will the token be issued?" but rather "How much real money can my points be exchanged for?"

This article will systematically break down the potential valuation of VAR and the theoretical value of a single point, combining the official details just released by Variational, the implied pricing from the Polymarket prediction market, and on-chain data dashboards from Dune.

32% for Airdrop, Points Continue Until TGE

According to the preliminary tokenomics announced by Variational, the total supply of VAR will be divided into three parts at TGE:

  • Genesis Distribution accounts for 32%: This portion will be airdropped according to user points, and these tokens will be fully unlocked at TGE;
  • Ecosystem Reserve accounts for 18%: Held by the Variational Foundation for ecosystem growth, with specific allocations determined by the foundation;
  • Team and Investors account for 50%: Locked for 12 months after TGE, then gradually unlocked over at least 3 years. Team members will also be subject to independent arrangements, and the specific ratio between the team and investors will be announced before TGE.

Additionally, Variational stated that in the future, 100% of the revenue flowing to the treasury will be used to buy back and burn VAR.

For point players, it is worth noting that the originally scheduled point program ending in the third quarter has not concluded as expected. Variational stated that due to "significant strategic partnerships" redefining the project's subsequent development path, the TGE timeline will be pushed back, and the point program will continue until TGE. Moving forward, an additional 150,000 points will still be added weekly until VAR completes TGE in the fourth quarter. Users must hold at least 1 point to be eligible to sign the VAR-related terms and receive the genesis airdrop; unclaimed airdrop tokens will be burned.

This means that the airdrop ratio has been confirmed at 32%, but the final number of tokens corresponding to each point is still not specifically determined ------ because the total number of points will continue to grow.

Valuation Game: Hidden Answers on Polymarket

Prediction markets often serve as the most sensitive thermometer reflecting expectations of real money. On Polymarket, regarding the prediction event of "FDV (Fully Diluted Valuation) one day after Variational goes live," a pricing consensus has formed across various probability distributions.

As of September 24, 11:35 AM Beijing time, the valuation probability distribution for Variational on Polymarket is shown above. By statistically modeling and weighting the probability distributions across different ranges, we can condense the complex market data into two core anchor points through two valuation calculation methods.

If we use the median valuation (Median FDV) method, we first need to find the watershed where the cumulative probability crosses 50%, which is the "1 billion - 2 billion" range. Observing the probability distributions on both sides of this range, we can see P(FDV > 1B) = 73%; P(FDV > 2B) = 30%; then using linear interpolation (which can be done by AI), Median = 1B + (73%-50%)/(73%-30%) * (2B-1B) = 1B + 23/43 * 1B ≈ 1B + 0.5349 B ≈ 1.53 B. In other words, the median valuation is approximately 1.53 billion dollars.

If we use the implied expected valuation (Expected FDV) method, which multiplies the mutually exclusive probabilities of each range by the midpoint value of that range and performs expected accumulation, the market's weighted expected mean falls around 1.85 billion dollars.

Overall, the core valuation range currently given by the prediction market converges roughly between 1.53 billion and 1.85 billion dollars.

How Much is a Single Point Worth? It Depends on the Final Number of Points

With the FDV range and the 32% airdrop ratio, we can further backtrack to determine the value of a single point.

According to data from the Variational Airdrop Simulator on Dune, by the end of the third quarter, the total number of Variational points is expected to be around 9.15 million. However, since the official confirmation has extended the point program until TGE, and an additional 150,000 points will still be added weekly thereafter, the final total number of points will likely exceed this figure.

If TGE occurs in the early part of the fourth quarter, the final total number of points may be around 9.3 million to 10 million; if it continues until the end of the fourth quarter, then based on the weekly issuance rate of 150,000 points, the final total number of points may approach 11 million.

Based on this, the theoretical airdrop value of a single point can be calculated using a simple formula: Single Point Value = Total Supply × 32% ÷ Final Total Points × FDV. If we calculate using the two valuation anchor points mentioned earlier (1.53 billion dollars median FDV valuation and 1.85 billion dollars implied expected FDV valuation), the theoretical values under different total point amounts are as follows.

From this perspective, if the final total number of points falls between 10 million and 11 million, then according to the current valuations given by the prediction market, the theoretical value of a single point is approximately between 44.5 and 59.2 dollars.

Of course, this range does not mean that the points will correspond to a fixed price once they go live. Firstly, Polymarket only provides the current market pricing; as TGE approaches and more information is disclosed, FDV expectations may still change; secondly, the larger the total number of points, the more diluted the fixed 32% airdrop pool becomes.

In summary, for point holders, the two variables to pay attention to moving forward are actually: How high will the FDV reach when VAR goes live, and how many points will ultimately be issued before TGE.
