Riot Platforms repaid a $200 million mortgage to Coinbase, releasing 5,821 BTC pledged assets
According to documents submitted by Riot Platforms to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), the company voluntarily repaid all outstanding loans and accrued interest to Coinbase Credit on September 21, and terminated the previously established credit line of $200 million, without incurring any early termination fees or penalties.
The loan had previously been fully drawn by Riot, with a fixed annual interest rate of 6.15%, and an original maturity date of April 20, 2027. As of June 30, Riot had pledged 5,821 BTC as collateral for the loan, valued at approximately $340.7 million, accounting for about 51% of the total BTC held by the company at that time; with the loan repayment, Coinbase's security interest in the related collateral assets was simultaneously released. Riot initially obtained a $100 million Bitcoin collateral loan in April 2025, increasing the limit to $200 million the following month. This repayment occurred approximately 7 months ahead of the revised maturity date.
