Binance Pay allows users in Japan to pay PayPay merchants using USDT

Binance Pay will allow eligible overseas users to make payments using USDT to the majority of merchants that support PayPay during their visit to Japan starting Wednesday. The related service operates through the payment interoperability framework HIVEX, and merchants will still settle in Japanese yen.

Binance stated that this is the first cryptocurrency payment service to access the PayPay merchant network through HIVEX, and related merchants do not need to apply separately or enable this feature individually. PayPay currently accepts payments at millions of locations across Japan, covering scenarios such as large chain stores, small and medium retailers, vending machines, taxis, and public transportation. HIVEX currently supports 9 types of overseas payment services, mainly from mainland China, Hong Kong, and Taiwan.

Japan received a total of 42.7 million international tourists in 2025; the number of visitors to Japan in the first 8 months of 2026 was 27.6 million, a year-on-year decrease of 2.7%.
