The U.S. trade deficit widened to $105.6 billion in August
In August, the U.S. trade deficit significantly widened to $105.6 billion, the highest level since early 2025. A surge in capital goods imports drove overall imports to a record high, increasing by 4.3%, while exports rose by 1.4%.
Adjusted for inflation, the goods trade deficit expanded to $114.7 billion. Imports of crude oil and petroleum products increased by $9.1 billion, while exports rose by $6.3 billion.
