MSCI plans to remove Strategy and other Bitcoin treasury companies from the global stock index
Bitcoin News posted on the X platform stating that MSCI is advancing a proposed method to classify Strategy, owned by Michael Saylor, Japan's Metaplanet, and other digital asset treasury companies as "non-operating" enterprises, which may prevent them from being included in the MSCI Global Investable Market Index.
JPMorgan estimates that passive funds tracking the MSCI index may be forced to sell $2.8 billion worth of MSTR stock; if other index providers adopt similar rules, the broader outflow of funds could reach $8.8 billion. Strategy's reverse analysis shows that funds tracking the MSCI index hold about 3.1% of its outstanding shares. The final decision is expected to be announced around October 16, with implementation possibly starting on November 30.
