Financial Times: After a sharp decline in the US stock market, there is hope for a higher opening as investors reassess AI risks

2026-10-19 14:25:35

According to the Financial Times, U.S. stocks are expected to open higher on Monday. Previously, U.S. stocks had just experienced the largest weekly decline since President Trump announced the tariff policy in April last year. During the Asian trading session, the Nasdaq 100 index futures, which are dominated by technology stocks, rose by 1.3%, and the S&P 500 index futures rose by 0.8%.

Analysts pointed out that after Friday's sell-off due to market concerns over the widening credit spreads of companies related to artificial intelligence data centers, investors are reassessing the market situation. Eased sentiment also supported the Asian markets, with South Korea's KOSPI rising 0.5% on Monday after a decline of 11% last week.

Prashant Bhayani, Chief Investment Officer for Asia at Societe Generale, stated that the rebound occurred because there was no substantial escalation in the conflict in Iran over the weekend; after last week's de-risking, traders are taking a wait-and-see approach to AI-related trades. The Tokyo Stock Exchange index fell nearly 1% in early trading on Monday but rebounded in the afternoon, ending the day roughly flat, with the Nikkei 225 down 0.7%.
