BNB Chain: Jenner hard fork introduces millisecond-level timestamps, smart contracts can read block time precision
BNB Chain announced that the BEP-706 proposal has been incorporated into the Jenner hard fork, adding a precompiled contract located at address 0x70, which allows smart contracts to read the millisecond-level timestamp of the current block.
Previously, contracts could only read the second-level time through block.timestamp, making it impossible to distinguish the specific time difference when multiple blocks were produced within the same second. BEP-706 allows developers to obtain the milliseconds since the Unix epoch, which can be used to improve the accuracy of time-sensitive signed quotes, auction deadlines, and price oracle update timeliness checks.
This feature is an incremental upgrade and does not affect the existing second-level return mechanism of block.timestamp.
