Why focus on a stablecoin-only wallet?

Author: momo, ChainCatcher

Not long ago, at Token2049 in Singapore, I noticed a wallet called Changer+ that emphasizes doing stablecoins only — and it was drawing quite a crowd. I tried it on the spot and used stablecoins to buy a ticket to the Singapore Zoo directly. The whole process felt similar to booking a ticket in fiat on a Web2 app — simple and smooth.

What I didn't expect was that the wallet surpassed 100,000 downloads within two weeks of launch.

Crypto wallets have always been an extremely competitive track, especially against the current sluggish market. Why has Changer+ suddenly gained such high download numbers?

With these questions in mind, I re-downloaded the wallet and went through a full experience. From a hands-on testing perspective, let's see what's actually special about it.

1. Hands-on with Changer+: How Is It Different from Typical Crypto Wallets?

1) Download and wallet creation

Changer+ is currently mobile-only. You can download it from the download page on the official website by scanning the QR code or tapping the App Store / Google Play buttons.

After installation, tap "Create Wallet" and set a password — almost the same onboarding experience as any ordinary internet app.

2) Wallet backup: a strong focus on security

After creation comes the mnemonic backup process. There is first a dedicated security notice page telling users the safest way to handle their seed phrase, before the mnemonic page appears.

A few details are worth mentioning. First, the mnemonic cannot be copied directly, nor can all words be viewed at once — you have to tap each word to reveal it, and screenshots are blocked. This largely prevents the high-risk habit of casually saving a seed-phrase screenshot to the photo album.

Second, after backup there is a spot-check verification: the app randomly asks you to confirm a few words, preventing the "thought I wrote it down, but actually got it wrong" scenario. It takes a dozen extra seconds, but for beginners this may be the single most important safeguard against permanently losing assets.

3) Transfer test: stablecoins only, with a lot of subtraction from the process

Once you get to transfers, the most distinctive part of this wallet becomes clear. Compared with most wallets on the market, its interface has been radically simplified.

First, it only supports stablecoins. No endless token list, no DeFi, staking, or inscriptions that ordinary users can't understand. It currently supports three major stablecoins — USDT, USDC, and PYUSD — keeping only the most-used Send and Receive functions, with no extra swap steps. Balances across different networks are clear at a glance.

Second, after entering Send or Receive, you simply choose a supported network. For my test, I used a USDC transfer. (USDT supports four major networks — BNB Chain, Ethereum, Solana, and Tron; USDC supports three — BNB Chain, Ethereum, and Solana; PYUSD is currently on Ethereum.)

Send supports multi-address batch transfers, a practical addition for users with small distribution needs. After sending or receiving, you can tap a network's balance to view the transaction history on that chain directly.

What was the most convenient part of the whole process? Gas fees can be paid in stablecoins (the option to pay with the network's native token is also retained).

This has long been the biggest pain point in transfers: many wallets require network fees to be paid in native tokens, and many users get stuck at the final step — "the address is fine, the amount is fine, but I'm short a few native tokens for gas, so the transfer fails." In the end they still have to top up the native token, costing extra time and fees. Changer+ defaults to deducting gas in stablecoins — effectively deleting the step that has frustrated countless newcomers.

Changer+'s transfer interface mimics the familiar fiat transfer experience: enter the address, enter the amount, confirm. Even users with no crypto background shouldn't feel lost on first use.

A quick note: the project is currently running a promotion for new users — from October 6 to November 6, 2026, each device gets 3 free transactions on each chain (Ethereum, Solana, BNB Chain). Readers who want to try it at low cost may want to take advantage of this window.

4) Usage scenarios: tickets and data packages inside the wallet, connecting to real-world spending

Unlike most wallets that only connect to on-chain scenarios, Changer+ emphasizes real-world consumption.

You can currently buy eSIM data packages for regions worldwide directly in the wallet, as well as attraction tickets in four countries/regions: Singapore, Hong Kong (China), Beijing, and Tokyo.

As a Singapore-based team, they have essentially full coverage of mainstream Singapore attractions, supporting 26 venues. The purchase process is basically the same as an ordinary Web2 online booking.

5. Other features for safety and experience

1) Address risk scan:

Beyond offline spending, your stablecoin balance can also be used to purchase a security scan service, running a risk screening before you transfer. It mainly reviews the address's associations, transaction activity, and past risk flags to help you judge whether there is significant risk.

For users with large transfer needs, this feature does add real peace of mind during transfers. There are currently two package tiers; on average, a single use costs about 0.629 USDT or 0.88 USDT — an acceptable price.

2) Currency reference rates:

In addition, the wallet includes a dedicated exchange rate page. Users can not only check reference rates for stablecoins and major global fiat currencies against the US dollar, but also switch the base currency to view rates between stablecoins and various fiat currencies, as well as between fiat currencies from different regions. This addresses one of the most common conversion needs in everyday use: whether you are confirming an amount before a cross-border transfer or calculating the cost of an overseas purchase, there is no need to switch to another tool—you can see directly in the wallet how much the money is worth in your local currency.

At first, I wasn’t sure why exchange rates needed a dedicated page. After using it, the purpose became clearer: Changer+ aims to be more than just an “on-chain tool.”

Seeing stablecoin values in familiar currencies provides useful context for everyday transfers and cross-border remittances, helping users understand the value they’re sending or receiving.

Hands-on summary

After this hands-on test, Changer+'s product trade-off is clear: rather than an all-in-one wallet, it does stablecoins only. And there's market logic behind this choice — stablecoins are the crypto segment with the strongest consensus and the largest scale today: on-chain transaction counts already exceed those of the vast majority of L2s, and usage scenarios keep extending toward consumption. The problem is that no wallet in the past has truly been built around this demand; in most wallets, stablecoins are just a deeply buried side option.

From a testing perspective, this positioning directly determines the experience: a tightly focused feature set with no token clutter; gas payable directly in stablecoins removes the most common cause of failed transfers; and the whole transfer flow feels intuitive, close to a fiat app. The rates page, stablecoin spending, and address risk scans built around this positioning all point to "usage" rather than "on-chain gameplay."

So its target audience is very clear: users who simply want to hold, transfer, and spend stablecoins. If that matches your needs, it is likely one of the more polished options available today.

2. How Secure Is Changer+?

Having tested the product experience: Changer+ hides the operations that used to frustrate users — gas swaps — behind the scenes, leaving only "Send, Receive, Use" on the front end. For newcomers, this "invisible" design is the core of a friendly experience. But a wallet is, after all, something that holds money. No matter how smooth the experience is, if security doesn't hold up, everything else is moot. So in this section, let's look at Changer+'s security foundations.

First, private key control. Changer+ uses a self-custody architecture: private keys exist only on the user's own device, and every transaction requires the user's own authorization — the platform has no access to user assets. This fundamentally rules out the risk of "platform misappropriation." The trade-off, of course, is that if you lose your private key, no one can recover it for you. This is common to all non-custodial wallets, and new users should know it in advance.

Secondly, the audit status. The project has completed independent security audits by SlowMist and Echo Pulse, with Echo Pulse also conducting penetration testing. Echo Pulse holds CREST certification and a Singapore license, making it a fully accredited and reputable firm. In addition, CertiK's audit is currently underway, and the results are expected to be released to the public in November.

Finally, the team — a side angle for judging security. Overall, this is a hybrid team combining traditional finance, government-grade security, and Web3 operations, backed by a private family office.

Changer+ CEO Leon Gao brings 15 years of experience in banking and fintech system design and architecture, including roles at a Hong Kong-listed technology company and a Singapore-licensed payment institution. CTO Zack Chen has led projects for top-tier Singapore clients, with a focus on government-grade security and user-protection architecture. CGO Yun Han Wong brings more than 10 years of experience across leading centralized exchanges and Web3 projects.

According to Changer+, the product was polished for a full three years before launch — in an industry known for rushing, that pace itself is a statement. Many wallet and infrastructure projects in the past poured most of their energy into fundraising, token launches, and airdrop incentives; the product itself never won users over and only attracted speculators. Once the incentives and token events were over, these projects slid into the awkward situation of having no users — even a death spiral. Judging from its current route, Changer+ appears intent on polishing the product starting from users' real needs and real scenarios.

3. Less Is More: How Changer+'s Focused Positioning Pays Off

After testing the product and reviewing its security, let's return to the opening question: why has Changer+ managed to gain solid download numbers in the crowded wallet market in a short time? The answer lies in how the wallet track itself has evolved over the years.

Crypto wallets have gone through several rounds of evolution. Like other infrastructure such as public chains, they have tended to compete on technology and pile on features — multi-chain support, DeFi aggregation, staking — as if one app should contain the entire industry.

But one repeatedly overlooked fact is that the vast majority of users want something very simple: something that works and is easy to use. More importantly, over the past few years, many wallets have bet their growth on token launches and incentives — and the moment incentives stop, users scatter. History has proven that hype bought with incentives is no moat; the only way for a project to survive cycles is to polish the product until people genuinely and consistently use it.

From this angle, Changer+ is a sample worth watching. It doesn't compete on the number of features; instead, it takes a few high-frequency actions and makes them extremely simple. I would argue that more wallets will shift in this direction going forward — and Changer+ may be among the first.

Zoom out further, to stablecoins. This is arguably the direction with the strongest consensus in crypto today. Yet strangely, for demand this massive, no wallet has ever truly been built around it — most products still treat stablecoins as a side asset option, buried in multi-level menus and cumbersome to use.

But a gap is precisely where opportunity lies. Changer+'s route is clear: instead of being all things to all people, it focuses on the stablecoin niche as a stablecoin-first wallet, lowering the threshold for holding, transferring, and using stablecoins to a level ordinary users can accept.

Changer+'s goal is straightforward: to be the first entry point that comes to mind whenever users need to move stablecoins.

All in all, the wallet track is shifting from "competing on features and incentives" to "competing on real demand and real experience," and stablecoins are the strongest-consensus direction that has long lacked a dedicated entry point — Changer+ sits right at the intersection of these two lines. Whether it can pull this off depends on whether it can truly turn "simple" into a user habit, rather than another flash-in-the-pan growth story.
